Shingles Vaccine (from age 50)
Indications
To prevent the disease known as shingles (herpes zoster). Shingles occur when the chicken pox virus (varicella zoster) reactivates after a period of dormancy (sleeping) in the nerves of the body. It can cause pain scarring and swelling of the brain.
Things to know
This is a live vaccination. It can be given 28 days after an attack of shingles but of course is better as a preventative which most people can have for the age of 50. You will be invited for it within the NHS but not until age 70 at least.
